Hungarian railways have been struggling with a lack of funding in recent years. This is reflected, for example, in the fact that the only major ongoing project for the purchase of new passenger rail vehicles in Hungary is currently the order for FLIRTs for GYSEV.

On 30 November 2023, Akiem and Talbot Services signed a contract for the overhaul of 23 Class 186 TRAXX locomotives in 2024, including on-going maintenance in the following years. 

On 28 September 2023, the MÁV Group signed a contract with Akiem for the lease of 15 Type ES64U2 locomotives in order to cover the growing passenger traffic.

On 16 November 2023 Akiem signed a contract with Newag for delivery of 30 Dragon 2 electric locomotives, with an option for 50 more.

On 14 August 2023 the first of ten new Vectrons has been delivered to Green Cargo in Malmö.

On 31 July 2023 Akiem has ordered an additional 15 Vectron AC and Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility.

On 17 July 2023 Alstom, and Akiem have signed a framework contract for 100 TRAXX3 MS Universal locomotives.

On 22 March 2023, CER Cargo Holding took delivery of the first two of six Vectrons to be hired from Akiem.

On 9 January 2023, GB Railfreight (GBRf) announced a new 10-year locomotive leasing deal with Akiem to invest 25 million GBP to increase the number of locomotives across GBRf’s operations.

ČD Cargo has put into operation another Class 189 locomotive from Akiem.

On 9 December 2022, SNCF, DWS and CDPQ announced that they have concluded the transaction whereby CPDQ has acquired the entire capital of Akiem.
