On 19 October 2021 the Executive Council of the Generalitat de Catalunya gave the green light for its rail operator, FGC, to take over in 2024 the service currently operated by Renfe between Manresa and Lleida.
On 4 May 2023 Juli Fernàndez i Olivares, the Catalan Minister for the Interior, and FGC President, Toni Segarra i Barreto, were present at the putting into service of the first two of the five new Class 257 electro-diesel locomotives (257.01 and 02) ordered from Stadler Rail Valencia.
In 2019 GC ordered a third Type GTW 2/6 DMU from Stadler for services on the Lleida to Pobla de Segur branch. The new train was put in commercial service on 27 August 2022.
On 2 September 2022, Alstom has been awarded a contract worth 177 million EUR by Catalonian operator FGC to supply 10 Coradia Stream regional EMUs, along with associated maintenance for a period of 15 years.
The presentation of the first of the batch of Stadler Valencia-built Class 115 EMUs, designed for services on FGC's 1 435 mm gauge network, took place at Rubí depot on 6 May 2021.
