Nexrail Lease exhibited two locomotives, a representative of the first DE 18 SmartHybrid series in production and the brand new pure battery e6, developed and produced in cooperation with the Italian company IPE 2000 Locomotori.

On 26 March 2024, SPITZKE SE and Vossloh Rolling Stock signed a contract for ten low-emission DE 18 Stage V locomotives.

Polo Logistica FS purchased eight Type DE 18 locomotives, manufactured by Vossloh Rolling Stock, used by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) in the Strait of Messina and for maintenance operations.

In late June 2023 the BBL LOGISTIK group and Vossloh Rolling Stock signed a purchase contract for ten low-emission Type DE 18 Stage V locomotives. 

On 18 April 2023 Vossloh Rolling Stock announced that the European Railway Agency (ERA) has approved the DE 18 Stage V mixed-traffic locomotive for use on the Italian network.

Nexrail is expanding its leasing business in Western Europe with the addition of 50 low-emission DE 18 Stage V locomotives from Vossloh Rolling Stock.

Although Vossloh Rolling Stock has made significant strides towards dual-power and emission-free locomotives, it is not abandoning diesel locomotives for the future, as they are difficult to substitute in some applications.

On 15 September 2021, Vossloh Locomotives, Nexrail Lease and InfraVia Capital Partners announced that they have entered into an agreement that Nexrail will take over 53 diesel shunters from the existing leasing pool of Vossloh Locomotives. Simultaneously, Nexrail ordered 50 new DE 18 Stage V SmartHybrid locomotives.

On 1 June 2021, Vossloh Locomotives was awarded type approval by ERA for the Type DE18 locomotive in Italy.
