In Railvolution 4/15, we presented a design concept for a double deck carriage mounted on three-axle bogies, shared with neighbouring carriages. The bogie pivots are positioned fore and aft of the centre of the bogies. Following publication of this article in Railvolution, its author was approached by the British company Tata Steel Project, which asked whether it would be possible to design a train based on these principles for use on the British network. What resulted was a concept known as the D-DART (Double-Deck ARticulated Train), described in this article.
