119 Flexity trams were ordered from Alstom in 2015, 81 vehicles are already in service in the city. The City of Vienna and Wiener Linien are now utilising the option to purchase 27 additional trams in accordance with the framework agreement. Wiener Linien's tram fleet currently comprises around 500 vehicles.

The low floor Flexity trams will gradually replace the old high-floor E2 trams over the next few years. Additional trams will also be needed for network extensions such as Line 27, Line 12 and Line 18. Delivery of the 27 additional vehicles will start in mid-2025 and is about to be completed by the end of 2026.

The Flexity trams are currently in operation on lines 6, 11, 18, 71, 60, 49 and 46. The 80 vehicles have already covered almost ten million kilometres. From next year, the Flexity will be getting more of a taste of the city centre: it will then also be in operation on lines D, 43 and 1.
