At the beginning of March, the 100th Flexity will have its very first working day on Wien streets. A total of 146 trams will be delivered by the end of 2026, this year, 30 units will be delivered from the Alstom works in Wien.
Peter Hanke, Councillor for Public transport and Finance, said: "The Flexity is a true Viennese, produced in Donaustadt. It has shaped the cityscape since 2018 and has been an indispensable part of the city ever since. The new vehicles will not only modernize the tram fleet, but also strengthen Wien as a production location. With a length of 34 m, the Flexity offers space for 211 passengers. If you lined up all 100 trams end to end, you would get a length of 3,400 m."
Last year, the Flexity was in use on lines 6, 11, 18, 71, 60, 49 and 46. In 2025, it will also be used more frequently in the city center: it will be on the D line in the spring, and then on lines 43 and 1 in the autumn, making a total of ten lines. The Flexitys have already covered over 12 million km. The Wiener Linien fleet currently comprises around 500 trams. The barrier-free Flexitys will increasingly replace the E2 high-floor sets in the coming years. Additional trams will also be needed for network expansions such as line 27, line 12 and line 18.
