After three EMUs produced at the Chorzów plant, Alstom is transferring the production of RE-IR units for the Romanian ARF (Autoritatea pentru Reformă Feroviară) to Bautzen. The Polish plant is busy with other orders and the Bautzen plant, which Alstom acquired when it took over Bombardier Transportation in January 2021, will thus provide employment (whereas the Görlitz factory, also ex-BT, is expected to be closed by Alstom).
The first three Coradia Stream EMUs for ARF have thus been produced in Chorzów, the third of which, RE-IR 101 003, has been transported to Bautzen to complete the interior fitting-out and use the test facilities there. It then returned to Chorzów in late October and early November for further testing (the transport, arranged by RailAdventure, was routed via the Czech Republic as it was also used to transport other vehicles). The first RE-IR unit for the ARF should be completed in Bautzen in Q1 2025.
