Flexity Trams For Göteborg

On 9 February 2022 Alstom announmced that it has received an order, worth 100 million EUR, to deliver 40 new trams to Västtrafik for use in Göteborg. The new Type M34 Flexities will be na extended version of the Type M33 trams that Alstom is currently delivering to Göteborg and the 40 units are an option from the initial 2016 contract enabling Västtrafik to order additional vehicles. The first M34 is expected to be in service by the end of 2023 and the last one will be delivered in 2026.
Alstom is manufacturing the M34 together with its partner Kiepe-Electric. The latter will provide all the electrical components, while Alstom will supply the mechanical part. The new 45 m long Flexity M34 will accommodate 319 passengers, which is 50 % more than the previous M33. The additional trams will meet Göteborg’s great need for new trams as the M33s and M34s will replace the aeging Type M28 and M29 trams currently in use.
