On 10 September 2021, the first two cars for ÖBB's first new Viaggio nightjet rake from the first batch of 13 left the Siemens Mobility’s Wien works. This marks the start of off-site testing for the type approval.
Although the driving trailers use the cabs from Vectrons, ÖBB is currently planning that these non-powered units will be hauled by Tauruses, despite the fact that the 1293 200 came out in May in a nightjet design. The reason is that there are no other locomotives with a top speed of 230 km/h available yet, so it would not be possible to use this speed parameter of the Viaggio rakes.
