In 2024, Siemens Mobility sold over 360 Vectrons, the plan is now to produce 385 Vectrons annually to meet the growing demand for locomotives and associated services. Therefore the München-Allach works will be further modernised with an investment of 280 million USD.
This comes barely two years after plans were announced in April 2023 to expand the local production and service facility from 50,000 to 80,000 m2 for the ability to produce more than 300 locomotives annually. This is less than a decade since "only" 80 Vectrons rolled out of here in 2016, when the productivity improvements at this plant began. The investment developments described will thus mean a quintupling (!) of Vectron production in ten years.
The new activities of the Allach works will also include the final assembly of passenger cars with steel bodyshells from summer 2025, thus relieving the Wien factory, which will concentrate only on aluminium-bodied cars. The München plant will have a capacity of up to 180 cars annually. The production of driving trailers for ČD's ComfortJet non-traction multiple units is, in fact, a start of this activity.
The necessary expansion of space for the overall increase in production volume at Allach in north-west of München is also made possible by the fact that Krauss-Maffei relocated its headquarters and various production facilities to Parsdorf, east of München in 2023.
