Class DP2D diesel-powered push-pull train for RZD

posted on 26th Apr 2025 21:00

TMH has created a new Class DP2D train, which consists of a six-axle Class TEP70BS diesel passenger locomotive and cars from the Class EP2DM EMU. The locomotive TEP70BS-371 was built at KZ (Kolomensky zavod), while the driving trailer and non-motorized intermediate cars for the DP2D-0001 unit were manufactured at DMZ (Demikhovsky mashinostroitelny zavod).

This push-pull train with a maximum speed of 120 km/h is designed for suburban transport on non-electrified lines and can have two to six cars, one of which is always a driving trailer. The six-car DP2D unit has 636 seats and two wheelchair spaces.

In order to create the DP2D set, the locomotive and cars have been modified. The locomotive was fitted with the appropriate control and monitoring systems, equipment for electrical control of the train entrance doors, a passenger announcement and communication system and additional electrical cables for the transmission of control and diagnostic circuit signals from the locomotive to the cars and back. If required, the locomotive can be coupled to another TEP70BS in a double traction. The cars, originally designed for an EMU, have been modified to work with a diesel locomotive, their interior matching the EP2DM units.

The TEP70BS-371 locomotive completed the first stage of testing at the Kolomna in March. It then arrived at the DMZ and in early April the first DP2D train was assembled and tested on site. In the second quarter of 2025, this train will be moved to the VNIIZhT Shcherbinka  circuit, where it will undergo preliminary tests and make a compulsory 5,000 km test run. After the necessary tests, the train will be moved to the Belorechensk polygon. Certification of the new train type is to be completed by the end of 2025.
