On 20 March 2025, the 1,000th car for the Ivolga family was presented in Tver. The car forms part of the 92nd train built at TVZ since the start of production of this class.
Work on creating a new EMU family began in 2013. A mock-up of the end car was first presented to the professional public in 2014. In July 2016, a certificate of conformity with the requirements of the RS FZhT was received, and soon the Moskva suburban operator TsPPK deployed the first two five-car Ivolgas on the Moskva Belorusskaya - Novoperedelkino route.
Since the start of the project, four modifications have already been created, each of which responded to the requirements of the Moskva‘s department of transport, taking into account operating experience, as well as the opinions of passengers and train crews. In the Ivolga 2.0 units, additional USB sockets appeared, additional handles and bicycle holders were installed, lighting and passenger information systems were improved.
With the Ivolga 3.0 type, the design speed was increased from 120 km/h to 160 km/h and the starting acceleration was enhanced, the number of seats was increased and passenger counting sensors were added. The main difference with the Ivolga 4.0 was the presence of three doors on each sidewall in the intermediate cars (instead of two).
Approximately 40 million tons of metal and more than 13 million meters of cables and wires were used to build 1,000 Ivolga cars, 60,000 seats, 100 000 chargers of various types and 16,000 windows were installed. More than 600 Russian enterprises are involved in the production.
Demand for Ivolga EMUs is growing: in 2024, 220 cars were produced, and in the plan for 2025 their number already exceeds 360. One of the tools that allowed TVZ to increase the batch production of Ivolga is financing in the form of loans within the Cluster Investment Platform, launched in 2023 at the initiative of the Russian government.
