On 25 May 2022, the contract for the delivery of Twist trams for Tallinna Linnatranspordi (TLT) was signed at the PESA headquarters in Bydgoszcz. It assumes the delivery of eight vehicles in the first stage and of additional 15 as an option,
PESA has offered the capital of Estonia the 28.56 m long three-section trams, carrying up to 309 passengers (65 seated), with an operational speed of 50 km/h. The trams will be equipped with modern information systems of ticket sales, passenger counting, online diagnostics etc. Both the driver's cab and the passenger area will be air-conditioned, and the heated floor will be a novelty.
The contract worth is 52 million EUR (basic order + option). TLT has up to 16 months to order trams according to the option. All vehicles are covered by a 48-month warranty. The delivery of the first trams from the basic order are scheduled start in the third quarter of 2024.
The purchase of modern trams is a part of a transport modernisation project in Tallinn. It includes, among other things, the construction of a new tram line to the Old Harbour, the purchase of trams and the creation of a transfer hub. The project is one of the key elements of the Estonian part of Rail Baltica.
