On 3 April 2025, framework agreement for the delivery of a total of 90 new trams for the capital of Województwo Małopolskie were signed in the office of Kraków's Mayor Aleksander Miszalski. The new trams, worth around 1.8 billion PLN net (around 429 million EUR), will be supplied by PESA Bydgoszcz, with which contracts for specific types of trams will be signed in subsequent stages:
- 30 bi-directional trams, 33 m long,
- 30 uni-directional trams, 43 m long,
- 30 uni-directional trams, 33 m long.
The priority for MPK Kraków is to order 30 bi-directional trams. This is particularly important for Kraków in view of the plans to build a line to Azory, which in the first stage is to be built without a loop.
Aleksander Miszalski, Mayor of Kraków, said: „This week we have some very good news for passengers. Just on Monday 31 March, together with the Minister of Infrastructure, we reported on the conclusion of an agreement with the Centre for EU Transport Projects, which guarantees 128 million PLN (around 31 million EUR) in funding for trams delivered in 2023. Today, we can officially confirm that these funds will go towards our own contribution to the purchase of further new trams to be delivered by PESA. The signing of the framework agreements is also a significant step towards the complete withdrawal from service of all trams without a low floor and without air conditioning, as promised by me earlier.“
Krzysztof Zdziarski, CEO of PESA Bydgoszcz, said: „For us, this is a symbolic moment - exactly 10 years ago we delivered the first Krakowiak trams, at the time the most modern and longest trams in Poland. Now, after ten years, PESA is returning to Kraków and will deliver Twist 3.0 trams.“ The first new trams are scheduled to arrive in Kraków in 2027.
After the delivery of the first batch, MPK's entire fleet will consist exclusively of low-floor vehicles, equipped with air conditioning and a passenger information system. In recent years, MPK Kraków received 110 Lajkonik (TANGO) trams from Stadler.
