On 11 October 2023, Škoda Group signed a contract with UTY (Uzbekistan Temir Yullari) for the delivery of 30 four-car EMUs worth 320 million EUR. This agreement represents the largest contract ever won by a Czech company in Uzbekistan. It follows a tender for (initially) 34 units, announced in September 2022.
The signing of the contract in Plzeň was attended by Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov in the presence of Uzbek Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov and his Czech counterpart Martin Kupka. Škoda will supply UTY with partially low floor air-conditioned EMUs based on the RegioPanter family, which it already produces for national operators in Latvia and Estonia, also for the 1,520 mm gauge. Production will start during 2024, with the main part of the vehicle assembly taking place at the Ostrava plant and part of it also taking place in Uzbekistan. The project is financed by Czech banks with the support of the export insurance agency EGAP.
