On 16 June 2023, the Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, and the CEO of KONČAR - Electric Vehicles, Josip Ninić, signed an agreement for the supply of 20 new low-floor trams for the needs of Zagrebački električni tramvaj (ZET), with a total value of 37.8 million EUR (excluding VAT).
The Type NT2400 tram is fully low-floor, equipped with ramps for passengers using wheelchairs. The 20.8 m long tram, designed for a maximum speed of 70 km/h, will have four sets of double leaf doors controlled by door zone cameras, there will also be the CCTV inside and outside the vehicle. The equipment will include new information panels and a announcement system, as well as USB ports for charging the mobile devices.
The new trams will be fully financed by EU funds through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and will be manufactured by a Croatian company. In December 2022, a grant agreement was signed for the procurement of 20 low-floor trams by ZET, and the City of Zagreb selected KONČAR's bid in an international public procurement tender.
Over the years, KONČAR has supplied ZET with a total of 142 low-floor Type NT2200 and NT2300 trams. The cooperation extends to maintenance contracts, which will greatly facilitate the integration of the new NT2400 trams into the fleet and transport network.
