CRRC ZELC finalised the first of the hybrid electric-battery locomotives ordered by Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH). Under the contract signed in late summer 2019, RCH will hire from CRRC ZELC two main line and two shunting electric locomotives fitted with a Last Mile module formed by traction batteries. Authorisation is to be achieved within 36 months since the contract signature.
The development costs will be handled by the manufacturer and these new machines are to be hired to RCH for four years. In case of interest, firm contracts can follow. The mainline locomotive has a 120 km/h top speed, is rated at 5,600 kW, with capacity of the Last Mile traction batteries about 200 kWh.
