The development of the Western Sydney metropolitan area is a major concern of the government of New South Wales, Australia. The Parramatta Light Rail is one of the flagship mobility projects in Sydney spanning 12 km and 16 stops. The new double-track tram line will connect Carlingford to Westmead and Camellia through Parramatta’s Central Business District. An estimated 130,000 people will be able to reach the stops by walk, and by 2026 around 28,000 passengers are expected to use the Parramatta Light Rail on a daily basis.
CAF is supplying 13 seven-car 45 m long Urboses, forming the manufacturer's most innovative generation of trams. They will be powered by TSA's proven traction motors with a dual propulsion (electric and battery-powered). The Parramatta Light Rail is scheduled to enter service in mid-2024. Other Urboses with traction motors by TSA have been successfully operating in many countries such as Norway, Spain, Estonia and Israel.
