On 21 March 2025, Alstom and SŽ - Tovorni promet (Slovenian Railways - Freight Transport) have signed a contract for the delivery of 30 TRAXX Universal locomotives, worth over 150 million EUR. The locomotives will be used for freight operation in Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia. The locomotives will be equipped with Alstom’s Onvia Cab on-board ETCS and are designed to haul very heavy trains in conjunction with Slovenian Railways’ existing fleet of locomotives.
The first two locomotives are scheduled for delivery by March 2027. The delivery of the remaining 28 locomotives will be gradual, in a total of 42 months since the contract signature. i. e. until September 2028. Including this order, around 380 TRAXX3 MS/Universal locomotives have been firmly ordered so far.
