On 15 February 2024 the State of California and Stadler have signed an agreement for delivery of six additional hydrogen trains. They form options that the state is exercising under a contract signed in October 2023. These additional four-car HMUs will expand the fleet to ten FLIRT H2 trains. The original contract with the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) and Caltrans includes an option to purchase up to 25 trains.
We asked Stadler:
- what are the delivery dates for trains from the first and second orders?
Answer: "A final master schedule is still in discussion with Stadler and Caltrans and will be communicated publicly by Caltrans."
- will all FLIRT H2s be manufactured entirely in Bussnang? Although overall orders from the US are already larger? From what number of trains would you consider putting a Salt Lake City plant into FLIRT H2 production?
Answer: "All trains for Caltrans will be built at Stadler US."
