On 10 December 2020, six Model 81-717/714 metro cars left St. Peterburg for Samara following a major overhaul, which was carried out by the Metrovagonmash subsidiary OEVRZ (Oktyabrsky elektrovagonoremontny zavod, October electric car repair works).
The contract between Metrovagonmash (MVM) and Samarski metropoliten (Samara metro) was signed in October this year. Overhaul and refurbishment will extend the service life of metro cars by 15 years. OEVRZ performed work on painting the bodyshells, replacing or repairing worn out components, including ventilation systems, automatic fire extinguishing systems, traction motors, and pneumatic, electrical and braking equipment.
Modern wear-resistant materials are used in the interior, new passenger seats were installed, floors and handrails were replaced. In the end cars, like in all MVM metro cars, special places are provided for passengers with reduced mobility. The cars were also fitted with CCTV.
MVM and Samarski metropoliten have been cooperating since 1987. The company has manufactured a total of 20 metro cars for Samara, including a new Model 81-717.6/714.6 four-car train built in early 2020.
