With the start of the Wachaubahn season on 15 March 2025, NÖVOG's new operations control centre in Spitz an der Donau will go into operation. In future, traffic on the two standard-gauge railways Wachaubahn and Reblaus Express will be managed from there. Udo Landbauer, Lower Austrian Deputy Minister of Transport, says: ‘Previously, the two railways were managed from the operations centre in Laubenbachmühle. Thanks to the close proximity and a specially developed ATP, we are raising the operational control of the Wachaubahn and Reblaus Express to a new, more efficient and demand-orientated level.’
In close consultation with Bundesdenkmalamt (the Federal Monuments Office), the historic station building in Spitz dating back to 1909 was extensively restored and adapted to the requirements of a modern control centre. The centre in Laubenbachmühle, which has been in existence for over ten years, continues to manage traffic for NÖVOG's narrow-gauge railways, such as the Mariazellerbahn and Waldviertelbahn.
The Wachaubahn is part of the Niederösterreich Bahnen (Lower Austria Railways) under the umbrella of NÖVOG. It connects Krems an der Donau with Emmersdorf and runs from 15 March to 30 November on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the 2025 season. From 1 May to 2 November, it runs daily for guests, and during Advent - from 6 to 21 December - on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
