On 28 February 2025, Transports Publics du Chablais (TPC) and Stadler have signed a contract for the delivery of 13 customised cogwheel-adhesion trains. This order represents a milestone in the modernisation of the Aigle - Leysin and Bex - Villars - Bretaye lines and in the improvement of passenger comfort. The 13 Class Beh 4/8 EMUs will be manufactured in Bussnang and delivered at the beginning of 2028, they will enter commercial service from September of the same year and will gradually replace the current trains.

At a cost of 140 million CHF, which includes the purchase of the trains and a spare parts, this is the largest investment since the two railway lines were founded. Stadler has developed the new vehicles especially for the demanding topographical conditions of the TPC lines. The trains are designed for gradients of up to 230 ‰ and for negotiating tight curves, which are common on the historic TPC network. The EMUs can switch from rack-and-pinion to adhesion mode and have the special feature that they can be used like a tram in urban traffic in Aigle and Bex.

Christophe Genoud, Head of Passenger Transport at TPC, said: ‘Following the replacement of the vehicles on the Aigle - Ollon - Monthey - Champéry line in 2016 and the Aigle - Sépey - Diablerets line in 2024, this order represents the final stage in the renewal of the TPC fleet. The procurement is part of an overall project to develop our infrastructure, such as the extension of the Aigle - Leysin line to the foot of the ski lifts. This demonstrates our desire to increase the attractiveness of regional public transport while meeting the challenges of sustainability and accessibility.’
