Liebherr enters Kazakh railway market with HVACs

Liebherr Transportation Systems (China) based in Pinghu was recently contracted by Stadler Rail Group through its local entity in Kazakhstan to manufacture and supply 550 heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems until 2030. They will be installed in Stadler-built sleeper and couchette carriages, which will be operated by KTZ.

Roland Friedrich, Deputy General Manager of Liebherr Transportation Systems (China) and Key Account Manager for Stadler Rail Group, said:  “The contract is our breakthrough and first milestone in the Kazakhstan railway market. We are happy to contribute our extensive experience and innovative technology solutions to this project. Our cooperation is not just a recognition of respective strengths of Stadler and Liebherr but represents a mutual deep commitment to improve the efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness of the rail industry.”

Liebherr will deliver the 550 HVAC units from fourth quarter 2024 until 2030. In total 505 passenger coaches will be equipped with underfloor mounted HVAC units, while 45 generator cars will be fitted with smaller roof mounted HVACs. All these units are made to withstand severe climate conditions of up to -50 °C and will be partly equipped with state-of-the-art sand and dust filtration equipment. The Liebherr-Transportation Systems engineering and production facility taking care of this order is located in Pinghu, Zhejiang Province (China).
