On 21 September 2023 representatives of Regionalverband Grossraum Braunschweig (Regional Association Greater Braunschweig) and Alstom have signed a contract for five more Coradia Continental EMUs. From 2026, the ENNO fleet (Elektro-Netz Niedersachsen-Ost, Electric network Lower Saxony East) will then consist of 29 trains. The contract also includes maintenance at Alstom‘s Braunschweig works over a period of 20 years.
The contract has a volume of more than 44 million EUR and is financed by the state of Lower Saxony. With the additional trains, more journeys can be made in double traction on the two ENNO routes: Wolfsburg - Gifhorn - Hanover and Wolfsburg - Braunschweig - Hildesheim. Between Braunschweig and Hildesheim, half-hourly service is planned from 2029 and the line will be extended to Elze. The ENNO trains have been in service in the region since December 2014.
