Second contract for EURO9000 locomotives - Alpha Trains orders 12 of them

Alpha Trains and Stadler have announced a contract for the purchase of 12 EURO9000 locomotives with scheduled delivery in 2025 and 2026. The project is funded with a total of 15 million EUR by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the BMDV's rail funding guideline. The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Project Management Jülich (PtJ).

The contract was announced on October 25, 2023, but it was signed a few months earlier. The decision in favour of the EURO9000 locomotives continues the long and successful partnership between Alpha Trains and Stadler. Alpha Trains already has an impressive fleet of 121 locomotives and 162 multiple-units built by Stadler.

This means that the latter has won the second contract for these quadruple-voltage dual-power locomotives, following an order for 30 ones from ELP, which are gradually being put into operation from this June. The corridor configuration of the Alpha Trains locomotives will be similar to that of the ELP, i. e. the version for operation in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium.
