SBB Cargo International has ordered an additional 20 Vectron MS locomotives equipped with the XLoad package. The locomotives will be leased from SüdLeasing in a long-term contract with a flexible term. The 20 new locomotives will be used by SBB Cargo International for transalpine transport. The contract also includes maintenance of the locomotives by Siemens Mobility for 15 years. The Vectron XLoad package improves the locomotive’s traction capability in order to increase its hauling capacity and efficiency. Among other advantages, XLoad enables to run longer and heavier trains in single traction through on the Swiss north-south axis

With this order, SBB Cargo International will have a total of 78 Vectron locomotives in service. National approvals will enable operation in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the Netherlands. All locomotives are equipped with the ETCS Baseline 3 as well as the required national train control systems.

This order increases the number of Vectrons sold in Switzerland to a total of 180 and the number of Vectrons sold in total to almost 2,500 locomotives, to 97 customers in 16 countries. The Vectron fleet has accumulated a total mileage of nearly one billion kilometres and proven its reliability and efficiency in everyday operation. Vectron platform locomotives are currently approved for operation in 20 European countries.
