Amtrak's first Amtrak Cities Sprinter Type ACS-64 electric locomotive was outshopped on 13 May 2013 from the Siemens works in Sacramento. In October 2010 Amtrak, which operates intercity rail services in the USA, awarded Siemens a 466 million USD contract for 70 electric locomotives, the first of which are to undergo dynamic testing in summer 2013, in readiness for starting commercial service in the autumn. The last of the batch is scheduled for handing over to Amtrak in late 2015.
