ČD Hires DC Electrics To Przewozy Regionalne

ČD has considerably more 3 kV DC electric main line locomotives than it needs at present. Neighbouring Przewozy Regionalne recently reached an agreement with the Czech state operator for the hire of ten Class 163s. These are currently being adapted for service in Poland, and sent to Toruń depot, where the accompanying photo was taken on 28 August 2012, showing 163.030, together with PR’s EN57-1770 EMU. Once the required formalities are completed, the 163s will enter test commercial service on passenger trains.
