Arenaways on the Cuneo - Savigliano line

Saturday of 25 January 2025 was a historic date for Piedmontese rail transport: the operation on the Cuneo - Saluzzo - Savigliano line was reopened after being closed for more than a decade. About ten days after the inauguration of the service Arenaway stated it was possible to draw a first assessment of the connection, concise yet indicative.

The operator has already welcomed on board about 2,200 passengers, of which half have purchased their ticket online, whilst the other half used the on board possibility (until 15 February, the ticket can be purchased on board without surcharge), the BIP card (part of the regional intermodal ticketing system) or the FAIRTIQ app.

In the last seven days Arenaways operated 132 service, using PESA-built Class ATR 220 DMU, 99 % of which were on time. Among these trains, three waited in Savigliano for the arrival of the Trenitalia service delayed from Turin: allowing all the passengers coming from Torino and heading to Saluzzo, Manta, Verzuolo, Costigliole Saluzzo, Busca and Cuneo, to catch the connection and reach home. The users are particularly appreciating the real-time info mobility system activated on the home page of arenaways.it and via @ArenawaysINFORMA, the WhatsApp channel that exceeded 250 subscribers in only two days.

On the occasion of the cancellation of few trains, occurred during the first three days of service only, the inconvenience for the passengers was minimised thanks to the efficient intermodal cooperation with Consorzio Granda Bus.

Matteo Arena, General Manager, stated: «We are glad of such great interest from the territory, proving that the need of this connection was deeply felt. During the first 10 days of service, we have already carried the first bikes and received information requests from various cycle tourists, we registered the interest of boy-scout groups and welcomed on board the Cubs from the Saluzzo1 as well as various local initiatives of familiarisation with the train.

Many other initiatives are in progress, day after day, in addition to the projects under development with key local institutions. Our goal over time is to offer an increasingly tailor-made service and we are collecting the suggestions that passengers started to share with us.
