A 1,000th Sinara

On 31 January 2020 Uralskie lokomotivy (UL) handed over to RZD the thousandth Class 2ES6 Sinara 3 kV DC freight locomotive. The batch production of the two-section Class 2ES6 started in 2008, and in 2019 it achieved a record level of 155 locomotives. Nowadays, the Sinaras are used on the Sverdlovskaya, Zapadno-Sibirskaya (West Siberian), Yuzhno-Uralskaya (South Ural), Oktyabrskaya (October) and Kuybyshevskaya dorogas (railways). At present, the Class 2ES6 is the most numerous new-built 3 kV DC locomotive on the RZD network. Its traction characteristics make it possible to haul trains weighing up to 8,000 tons.

Dmitry Pumpyansky, President of the Sinara Group, said: „Now we are working on a new project to develop and produce our own asynchronous traction equipment for this locomotive. In 2021, the new propulsion is expected to be ready for testing, and in 2022 we hope that the new Class 2ES6A prototype will be able to haul trains on the RZD network.“
