Two years of OUIGO

Over the two years that OUIGO has been active in Spain, between 10 May 2021 and 10 May 2023, the operator states that 'close on' six million passengers have been carried, around five million on the Madrid to Barcelona services. At times train occupancy hovered around 95 %, but since the debut of IRYO has dropped somewhat. Moreover, during 2022 operating costs increased substantially, as the price of electricity rose. OUIGO states that in order to maintain train occupancy levels, it will be necessary for Adif Alta Velocidad to reduce its track access charges.
