On 10 November 2020, the siding of Dyckerhoff GmbH in Amöneburg, north of Wiesbaden, was used again for the first time after 15 years. The arrival of the RheinCargo locomotive DE 502 marked the beginning of the expansion of the intensive cooperation between Dyckerhoff and the operator.
Stefan Woywadt, head of the Amöneburg plant, said: „The reactivated siding makes our location more independent of the existing traffic routes. For example, the very low level of the Rhein two years ago showed us how important it is to be able to use alternative freight routes. But this is not just a contribution with which we secure our production in the long term. The siding also gives us the opportunity to use an environmentally friendly transport again in the future.“
RheinCargo supports Dyckerhoff intensively in the implementation of the project. „The reactivation of the railway branch was supplemented by RheinCargo consulting and infrastructure tasks. We are pleased that the long-standing partnership between RheinCargo and Dyckerhoff can be expanded to include this new chapter“, says Peter Jacobs, head of the RheinCargo division Factory and Industrial Railways.
Dyckerhoff is an international cement and ready-mix concrete manufacturer that belongs to the Italian Buzzi Unicem Group. Amöneburg is Dyckerhoff's main plant and was founded in 1864. Today, gray cements with cement clinker from the neighboring Göllheim plant are produced here. The plant also produces white cement clinker. Dyckerhoff is the only manufacturer of white cement in Germany. In the next few months, the planning and expansion of the facilities in Amöneburg are to be pushed ahead so that Dyckerhoff products can also increasingly be handled via the rail in the future.
