New FLIRTs For TILO

On 30 November 2018 FNM and Stadler signed in Milano a contract worth nearly 115 million EUR for the supply of nine six-car 3 kV DC/15 kV AC 160 km/h FLIRT EMUs for services between Italy and Switzerland, dedicated to the TILO (Ticino - Lombardy) cross-border operation. The trains will be leased to Trenord in order to reinforce the TILO service, starting with the timetable change in December 2020. The delivery of the first five FLIRTs is envisaged by November 2020, that of the remaining four will start from July 2021. Together with the contract signed on 21 November 2018 with FNM for the 30 FLIRT DMUs, the Stadler-built fleet in Italy grows to over 200 trains.
