A batch of 30 Class 99 bi-mode Co’Co’ locomotives is being built by Stadler Valencia for Beacon Rail and GB Railfreight, and of of them will be shown at InnoTrans. This trail-blazing vehicle was the first order of its type in the UK and builds on the success of the EURODUAL six-axle locomotives Stadler has supplied for clients in continental Europe.
Designed to run using fuel or overhead electricity, the Class 99 heralds a new generation of locomotives, set to revolutionise freight transport in the UK. A powerful, low-emissions Stage-V engine means that it can serve non-electrified lines, and its outstanding tractive effort of 6,000 kW in electric mode and up to 500 kN in diesel mode ensures high hauling capability and performance.
