MÁV-START continues renewal of its fleet of long-distance passenger cars. To this end, it is since 2014 gradually acquiring new coaches called IC+, which are intended for locomotive-hauled trains and for both domestic and international services. They are manufactured by MÁV Szolnok and so far two batches of 90 cars in total have been ordered, which followed on two prototypes - see here.
Part of them are 35 Class ARmz cars, which include two premium class compartments with four seats each, 27 first class seats and a bistro. MÁV issued a tender for supply of the seats in December 2019, its evaluation took place in April 2020. BORCAD cz won the tender for the supply of premium class seats, where electrically operated Type COMFORT seats are installed.
They offer electrically adjustable movement including the leg rest, a seat width of 500 mm between the armrests and are equipped with a reading lamp located on the headrest and a table that folds into the armrest. The colour design was defined by the customer - seat is upholstered in blue leather. The volume of 35 cars and 280 luxury seats, delivered in a relatively short time, makes this order significant for BORCAD cz.
The first deliveries had to take place within 180 days from signing of the contract, thus in October 2020. Deliveries will be completed in April 2022. The first Class ARmz cars started passenger service on 11 October 2021 on the Budapest Keleti - Miskolc - Nyíregyháza - Debrecen - Szolnok - Budapest Nyugati circular line.
