On 29 July 2020 Siemens Mobility and Metro Warszawskie have signed a contract for the P4.3 inspection of bogies of Warsaw Inspiro trains.
In 2013 and 2014, Siemens Mobility of Wien, together with Newag of Nowy Sącz, delivered 35 Inspiro six-car units for the Warsaw Metro, these representing the very first order for the new Siemens’s family of trains. They have a Bo’Bo’ + 2’2’ + Bo’Bo’ + Bo’Bo’ + 2’2’ + Bo’Bo’ axle arrangement, a 750 V DC third rail power supply, maximum speed of 90 km/h and maximum tractive power of 2,500 kW.
Now, following of more than 1.6 million km in service the bogies will be overhauled. In total, 420 bogies will be involved, the work including scheduled renewal of wheelsets, which means that they will be demounted from bogies, all parts will be checked and if necessary replaced. In assumption, 70 % of wheels will be replaced by new ones. Replacement concerns also another bogie components, based of their condition - the brake discs, all metal-rubber elements in primary and secondary suspension, and suchlike.
The work will be performed between 2021 and 2023 at the Siemens Graz bogie centre, where there is all the special equipment necessary for a deep diagnostic of all bogie components. Some components like traction motors or gearboxes will be overhauled by Siemens technicians in Nürnberg (motors) or Penig, near Chemnitz (gearboxes).
